Thinking in Bets: Making smarter decisions - Great book on how to view good decision making as independent of the outcome. (5 stars).
The Gift of Fear - The most unique book I read in 2018, and one I think everyone should read. Teaches what real fear is and how to use it to your advantage. (5 stars).
Influence (Cialdini) - Probably the best writer on persuasion techniques (5 stars).
Stillness is the Key – Really enjoyed this (actually read it twice), an excellent summary of the Stoics in an understandable format with practical applications (5 stars).
The Power of Habit - How do you form a habit? It takes a cue, action, and reward. A good read for those who want to form good habits or break bad ones. (4 stars).
Misbehaving (Thaler) - More of a memoir but an excellent book on biases (4 stars).
Poor Charlie’s Almanac – The wit and humor of Charles T Munger (4 stars).
The Art of Thinking Clearly – Want to fight your biases, this book is a good start to help you understand what they are and how they manifest. (4 stars).
The Honest Truth about Dishonesty – we all lie.. some of us worse than others, and its infectious (4 stars).
How Will you Measure your Life? – find a likeness, make a commitment, measure using a metric (4 stars).
The Magic of Thinking Big - One of these books that should be mandatory in high-school, we limit ourselves with small thinking and petty behaviour (4 stars).
The 4 Hour Work Week - In general, didn’t appeal to me (I plan to work until I’m at least 80), but I did like the chapters on email/work efficiency. (3 stars).
Think like a Rocket Scientist - No new concepts, but a good summary of useful mental models presented with a mindset of a rocket scientist (3 stars).
Die with Zero - Really got us thinking about how we wait far too long to spend our money. Only 3 stars as we didn’t agree with a good chunk of it, but the sections on consumption smoothing are a must-read (3 stars).
Getting to Yes - A decent into to negotiation if you’ve never taken a course on it. 1) Separate the people from the problem 2) Know your BATNA! (3 stars).
Indistractible- A lot of great tips on how to maximize your day and make sure you stay focused in this age of distractions - remember the 10 minute rule! (3 stars).
With Winning in Mind - More for athletes, but a few excellent chapters on visualization. (3 stars).
Seeing what Others Don’t – very interesting stories about insights, hard to put into practice (3 stars).
The Checklist Manifesto – check lists work (3 stars).
