Business/Management:

Shoe Dog (the Nike Story) - One of the best books I’ve ever read. Honest, blunt, and pretty damn funny at parts – Phil Knight is a masterful storyteller (5 stars).

The Halo Effect
– Basically when things are going great, everyone will love you/your company, and when things are bad, so are you/your company – fyi culture doesn’t really lead to good business returns (5 stars).

Liar’s Poker - Michael Lewis’s original and probably best (5 stars).

Too Big to Fail - a great read on what took place behind the scenes in 2008/09. Amazingly well researched by Sorkin (5 stars).

The Smartest Guys in the Room - If you are at all interested in business, the Enron scandal, on which investments to avoid, this book is a must read (5 stars).

Competition Demystified
– Packed with awesome case studies, but man did they get apple wrong. (also don’t listen on Audiobook – too much too follow) (4 stars).

Grinding it Out - the story of Ray Kroc, he was 50+ when he launched the McDonald franchise. You’re never too old to do something big (4 stars).

The Everything Store – Story of Jeff Bezos/Amazon – some people are born different, but customer obsession works (4 stars).

Barbarians at the Gate – Story of KKR’s take-over of JRR Nabisco. (4 stars).

The Ride of a Lifetime – Bob Iger’s memoir, a bit lacking on the details, but clear why and how he made some great deals for Disney. (4 stars).

Bad Blood - The Theranos saga – great example of a business built on stories (4 stars).

The Outsiders: Eight Unconventional CEOs - Great for those in business who want to learn how to think differently (4 stars).

Radical Candor – Lampooned by the show, Silicon Valley, but a must read for managers everywhere (4 stars).

The Hard Thing about Hard Things - Horowitz has very specific and useful teachings about running startups (4 stars).

The Big Short – Story of the 2008 financial crisis from those who predicted it. Lewis has an amazing ability to make ordinary characters very interesting (4 stars).

When Genius Failed - The story of LTCM, teaches you not to put anyone on a pedestal (4 stars).

Principles (Ray Dalio) - A bit general but some excellent nuggets. My favourite takeaway; You can have anything you want in life, but not everything (4 stars).

The Upstarts - the story of the creation and scaling of Uber and AirBnB, story of how when faced with a wall of obstacles, just raw perseverance makes all the difference (4 stars).

Built from Scratch - Home Depot might be one of the most under-told stories in business, but really was the offline version of Amazon - customer obsessed, huge selection, low prices, and unique working culture (4 stars).

Tap dancing to Work - If you were to read just 1 book on Buffett this probably isn’t the one, but it does have a great collection of essays and articles. (3 stars).

Billion Dollar Whale - Written a bit of a tabloid form (as say compared to Bad Blood) but a fun read nonetheless especially because of the scale of the theft/expenditure. (3 stars).

Flash Boys – its not about seconds, its about microseconds in the trading world (3 stars).

The Man who Solved the Market: Story of the Renaissance fund and its founder, Jim Simons. 30%+ annualized returns... why do I bother (3 stars).
